The Canarian Government has announced the conditions for applicants for social housing projects on the islands.
The existing lottery system will be replaced by a points-based system that will “prioritise those who can show they have roots in the Canaries and those with greater social needs.”
Successful applicants must show they have been continuously resident in the Canaries for 12 years, or discontinuously for 15 years, and must have been living or working in the relevant council area for at least five years.
10% of housing units will be allocated to people with mobility issues, while 20% will be reserved for young people under the age of 35, and 10% for those over 65. Victims of gender violence will be allocated 8% of housing units.
The conditions will apply to applicants for places in the six blocks of social housing that are currently under construction in Los Geranios, In Arrecife. Two of these blocks will be ready for occupation before summer this year, with another by the end of the year. these will provide a total of 201 apartments.
