Lanzarote’s Tourist Federation (FTL) has met with Canarian Police officers to raise issues relating to the tourism sector.
The FTL highlighted the existence of tour guides that are operating without a licence and transporting tourists in unauthorised vehicles without the relevant insurance cover, which the FTL believes poses a risk to the safety of Lanzarote’s tourists.
Other issues raised included social media pages and digital platforms offering the illegal hire of vehicles that are not authorised to carry tourists, as well as unlicenced holiday rental properties.
The FTL also mentioned the thefts that sometimes occur in the resorts and stressed the importance of a visible police presence to ensure visitors felt safe.
The Canarian Police is a body under the control of the Canarian Regional Government. Around 30 officers are due to be stationed on Lanzarote, based in the old Local Police station in Arrecife.
