Firefighters rescued a cat that was trapped in an aljibe (water tank) near the Zonzamas Recycling Centre yesterday.
The rescue followed a report at around 6pm from a citizen who had heard the cries of the cat issuing from a four-metre-deep concrete cistern. The firefighters established that the cat was at the bottom of the cistern on top of some rocks and descended using a ladder to rescue it.
The animal was so weak that it is thought it may have been there for several days. The cat was then handed over to a worker from environmental agency Gesplan.
