For weeks the Cabildo have announced that they are adding the “final touches” to Costa Teguise’s new bus station and recently stated that it would be open by February 9th. However, it is yet to open.

The Costa Teguise bus station was announced back in January 2024, when the Cabildo announced official bids for its 2.2m Euro construction.

The station is situated on a 6000 square metre plot next to the Centro Civico and close to the Colegio Arenas International school.

In January 2025 it was announced that the construction was in its “final stages” and would open before the end of that year.

In January 2026 the Cabildo announced an additional investment of €48,222.08 for the new bus station, meaning that the project would run over a quarter of a million Euros over budget. Originally contracted for a cost of €2.36 million, the revised figure now stands at €2.61 million.

A few weeks ago, the Councillor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina, publicly announced an opening date of February 9th, stating that the “final touches” were being made. However, that date came and went, and the station is yet to open.

When it does (eventually) open, the station will be a base of operation for buses and taxis, with an information point and a cafeteria. There will also be some parking spaces, charging points for electric vehicles and areas adapted for the disabled.

NEW LINES

Earlier this month, the Teguise Mayor announced that the inaugural line to depart from the new station will be the Costa Teguise – La Caleta de Famara route, improving links between two of the municipality’s tourist and residential centres.

However, the most requested addition is a direct bus route from Lanzarote Airport to Costa Teguise, which was announced at the same time. An upgrade for both residents and holidaymakers, it has scope to extend the network with additional connections in the future.

The timetables for routes to and from the bus station will be announced when the station officially opens.
