Spain’s Ministry of Housing has ordered online rental platforms such as Airbnb to remove advertisements for almost two and a half thousand holiday rental properties on Lanzarote after they failed to comply with requirements for short-term rental.

According to la Voz de Lanzarote, similar numbers of properties will be affected in the island’s three main tourist municipalities with 576 affected in Teguise, 570 in Tías and 563 in Yaiza.

Several thousand rental properties on Lanzarote officially requested inclusion on the single register of short-term rentals, which has been compulsory since last July.  Between 20-30% of requests in Tías, Teguise and Yaiza were rejected, meaning that they can no longer be advertised on rental platforms.
