A car caught fire in Puerto del Carmen last night, causing significant damage to other vehicles in a mechanics workshop nearby.
The incident occurred at around 4 am when emergency services were informed that a vehicle was burning at the junction of Calle La Palma and Calle Roque Nublo. When firemen arrived, the car was fully ablaze and they set to work to extinguish the fire.
However, they soon discovered that a fuel spill had spread the fire to the interior of a mechanic’s workshop. Firefighters from the island’s Emergency Consortium and Lanzarote’s volunteer fire service broke windows to enter the garage and control the situation.
One car was completely burnt out and two other significantly damaged. The cause of the fire is, as yet, unknown.
