UD Lanzarote have had a good start to the season with four wins, a draw and a defeat leaving them in the top spot.
The Rojillos (The Reds) are relishing being back at their home ground the Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife after spending a season in Tías whilst renovation work took place. Making the Ciudad Deportiva a fortress is paramount if promotion is to be achieved and obtaining maximum points in their opening three matches was a fine start.
A 4-1 home win and a superb 0-2 away win in the last two weeks in September against two promotion rivals, CD Mensajero and CD Atlético Paso, has given Lanzarote bags of confidence.
Long-term Lanzarote fans won’t be jumping for joy just yet as they have been there before on too many occasions and seen it fizzle out. But one thing is certain – they will be delighted by the attacking and pressing style of play that their new manager Ángel López has installed within the squad.
On the 5th October Lanzarote presented their new addition to the club, the Walking Football / Fútbol Caminando team to their fans. Men need to be at least into their 50th year and ladies 40th. Anyone wishing to join or fancies a game whilst on holiday contact Vic on: (0034)711057380.
It is simple to come and see a match as the stadium is next door to the central bus station in Arrecife and local bus number 3 runs every 30 minutes back and forth to Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise. From Playa Blanca it is bus number 60 but it runs less frequent. If you are coming by car then parking nearby is easy as Arrecife is a ghost town on Sundays. Pay on the door.
