Lanzarote is on a yellow alert for high temperatures and calimas today and tomorrow. The Canaries has also placed the islands on a state of pre-alert, ensuring emergency services are prepared for a heatwave.

The alert began at 10 am and will continue until midnight tomorrow (Wednesday 17th September). Temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius are expected and visibility is forecast be reduced to 3,000 metres for suspended dust particles. South and south-eastern areas of the island (where most of the island’s population are located) are expected to be worst affected.

The yellow alert from AEMET is the lowest level of alert and recommends only that citizens keep themselves informed of weather conditions and perhaps reconsider certain activities that may be affected by the weather.
