More than just a theatre, ‘El Salinero’ is a modern venue dedicated to the exhibition and production of high-quality performance. Its story is one of transformation. Initially built as an auditorium for the island’s music conservatory, it underwent significant renovations to emerge in 2007 as the dedicated Lanzarote Island Theatre. After a further brief closure to perfect safety features, it reopened permanently in 2011. In 2016, it was renamed in honour of a beloved local poet, Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero”, cementing its place in the island’s cultural heart.

Today, the 592-seat auditorium is a hub of creativity. Its programme is impressively diverse, featuring everything from gripping drama and contemporary dance to classical concerts, flamenco, and jazz. It also serves as a key stage for the Canary Islands’ performing arts circuit and hosts events during the island’s premier film and visual arts festival, FICC.
