Playa Honda underpass finally opens

Almost two years after work started on what was supposed to be a nine-month project, the Playa Honda underpass finally opened to traffic yesterday. 

The underpass will filter off traffic heading to Deiland Shopping Centre from Arrecife. relieving congestion on the infamous Playa Honda double roundabout. It is estimated that around 9,000 vehicles will use the underpass each day.

The Canarian Government’s Public Works department claims that the method of constructing the underpass – building boxes that were then pushed into place by hydraulic jacks, has never been used before on the Canaries.

The underpass also has a pedestrian walkway, a cycle path and a garden zone.
