TÍAS SPORTS QUERY
Hi,
There is a rumour that there is a substantial building project planned for the Sports complex in Tias (Deportiva).
Is this just another unfounded rumour or is there some work planned? If there is it might be worth covering the project in the mag?
Cheers, Mike.
Ed: Last month, Tías’s Mayor told us he hoped that one of his councillors would be issuing a tender for the swimming pool in summer. We haven’t heard any other news but we’ll be pleased to cover it if it ever takes place.
USE WHAT YOU’VE GOT!
Dear Sir,
One of the main problems of the water crisis on the island is the amount of electricity that is used to desalinate the water. On an island with abundant supplies of wind, solar, tidal and geothermal energy, why is the horizon between Costa Teguise and Arrecife still permanently stained by the smoke from an oil-burning power station?
It’s good news that a few wind turbines have recently been installed near San Bartolomé, but we’re still miles away from other islands.
Yours, Derek Keen.
SAFETY FIRST
Dear Sir,
I was delighted to see your report on the progress of Costa Teguise bus station. Safety being paramount, however, I think it should be pointed out to the young lady in the centre of the picture that whilst she is wearing a high viz jacket and hardhat, she has no filter protection. Where are her toe cap shoes?
Yours, Norman.
Ed: The lady was the deputy leader of the Cabildo, Norman. I’m not certain, but I think H&S requirements for politicians on photo-shoots are less strict than those for actual workers. I’m sure that if she had actually loaded any breeze blocks or mixed any cement they would have equipped her correctly.
HERE FOR THE BEER!
Dear Gazette,
Thanks for the article about craft beer producers on Lanzarote. I’ve had my eye on these products for a few years now and I have to say that all three breweries have improved hugely over the years, each with a tempting and varied range.
The Malpeis bar in Tinajo and the Nao bar in Arrecife are both well worth a visit in the evening, too.
All the best, Graham.
