Six local derbies will take place next season as three Lanzarote teams take part in Group 12 of the Third RFEF league.

San Bartolomé CF yesterday made sure of their survival in the division with a 1-0 victory over Estrella CF. The team nicknamed “La Batata Mecánica” (the Clockwork Sweet Potato) were pretty safe in any case, but mathematically they can now no longer be relegated. It’s a significant achievement for the 53-year-old team who are playing at the highest level they have ever achieved in their history.

Meanwhile UD Lanzarote failed to beat CD Mensajero over in La Palma, losing 2-1 and missing a chance to enter the play-offs for promotion.

US Yaiza drew 3-3 with Conquense in a goal-packed match, but their relegation had already been sealed last weekend.

Meanwhile in La Liga, UD Las Palmas, supported by many islanders, also face a nail-biting end to the season. The Canaries are currently three points away from safety with an inferior goal difference to their two nearest rivals.
