Two roads in Lanzarote are among the most accident-prone in the Las Palmas province. Both roads recorded 53 accidents in 2023.
According to data provided by Informes Mecánicos & the Dirección General de Tráfico, the LZ-1 & LZ-2 in Lanzarote are among the most accident-prone roads in the Las Palmas province (which includes Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura & Lanzarote.)
Each accident generates an average of 1.4 victims. Additionally, 85% of fatalities die within 24 hours of the accident and 93% of those injured do not require hospitalisation.
The study shows that “the majority of accidents occur in a context of fluid traffic (71%), with a road surface in good condition (90%), sufficient natural light (72%), clear weather (80%) and good visibility (90%), so that attention at the wheel is paramount at all times.”
Sergio Arboledas, Managing Director of Informes Mecánicos, stated that the data leads them to think that many accidents are caused by absent-mindedness or lack of attention at the wheel.
