Lanzarote’s Cabildo has purchased an urban property in Uga for affordable rental accommodation.

At a meeting of its general council yesterday, the island government paid €1.1 million for the property of 4,700 square metres. This comes in addition to two properties already purchased in Arrecife.

“We’re not talking about social housing,” said Cabildo Housing Councillor Miguél Ángel Jiménez. “What we’re doing in buying land so that, thanks to the agreement we have with the Canarian Government, we can promote rentals at affordable prices.”

The three plots of land will shortly be transferred to the Canary Islands Housing Institute.
