Spain’s Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has announced that last month was the hottest April in the Canary Islands since data began to be recorded 60 years ago.

In AEMET’s announcement it was revealed that the eastern Canary Islands reached an average of 20.4 degrees Celsius, the warmest April on record.

Los Dolores in Tinajo saw a maximum temperature of 35 degrees on April 11th, the third highest recorded temperature in the Canary Islands in April, behind Gran Canaria (38.5) and Tenerife (38.3).

The highest minimum temperature on Lanzarote in April was 24.6 degrees recorded at the Lanzarote airport.

TROPICAL NIGHTS

As for nighttime temperatures (or tropical nights for those above 20 degrees), Lanzarote saw four tropical nights of which two were recorded in Tías, one in Haría and another at the Lanzarote airport. These tropical nights were experienced on the 11th and 12th of April.

In the last ten years of records, April 2024 has been the one with the highest number of tropical nights, reaching a total of 253 in the Canary Islands.
