Spain’s meteorological agency and the Canarian Government have issued yellow weather alerts for heat and calima conditions, starting from 8am this Thursday.

Temperatures are predicted to reach 36 degrees, with the south,-eastern area of Lanzarote worst affected. A high-altitude calima will reduce visibility to 3 kilometres, and will mainly affect high-lying zones.

A yellow alert is the lowest level, and comes with recommendations for citizens to stay informed about weather conditions. The Canarian Government has also advised islanders to consider suspending daytime events in the open air.

No alerts for Friday or the weekend have yet been issued by AEMET, but these are a distinct possibility. The Canarian Government’s alert extends from Thursday until Sunday.
