A heatwave that could bring temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius is predicted to reach the Canaries in midweek.

A mass of hot air from the African mainland will reach the Canaries by Wednesday and remain for several days, bringing steadily rising temperatures that will affect the Eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura most.

No official weather warnings have been issued yet, although these are likely once the temperature rise is confirmed, but authorities have warned citizens to think twice about organising daytime outdoor activities during a heatwave.
