Lanzarote will soon be flooded with election publicity, as the official period for campaigning gets under way today in advance of the elections of 28th May.

On this island, the electoral campaigns are the only time when the strict rules against public advertising are suspended. As a result, the island will see  thousands of posters, banners and othe electoral material.

As always, politicians will be about and about shaking hands , kissing babies and appearing at parties. There’s also the chance of hearing cars driving around announcing their  candidates on megaphones – the first time this method of publicity will be heard since the lockdown of 2020.

The campaign will last for 15 days, until Saturday 27th May – the day before the lections take place.
