Scientists from the Upper Council of Scientific Research have denounced a planned shooting range in La Degollada, Yaiza,  because of the presence of endangered Hubara bustards in the area.

Scientists from the Hubara Project, which monitors the population of the largest bird on Lanzarote, claim that several examples of the species live in the area which is planned to be converted into a civilian shooting range.

The scientists also claim that other species, such as Eleanor’s falcon, Canarian barn owls, ravens and Egyptian vultures could be affected by the shooting range.

A formal complaint was issued to the Guardia Civil’s wildlife division, Seprona, yesterday.
