The local police are investigating several acts of vandalism in Teguise, including damages to the newly refurbished Castillo de Santa Bárbara.
Acts of vandalism in Teguise including several markings and scratches to the walls of the castle in Teguise, damage to the outdoor facilities at the picnic area in La Villa, and others are currently being investigated by local police.
Mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, on behalf of Teguise Ayuntamiento, has condemned the acts of vandalism that have damaged cultural assets such as the iconic Castillo de Santa Bárbara. “The first thing is to pursue these types of acts so they do not happen again and increase surveillance at these points on the island.”
“Lanzarote requires a Heritage Surveillance Office, since there are many assets to protect at the island.”, Betancort stated.
The Castle, which is set to open this year will open its doors after almost 1.3 million euros worth of refurbishments to repair the castle, which includes surveillance cameras.
