Arrecife’s seafront will be closed from 2pm to 9pm today, as the capital finishes its carnival celebrations with the traditional Burial of the Sardine.
The parade will begin at 6pm from the Ayuntamiento, heading to Playa Reducto, and will include most of the dancing groups, drummers and singing groups from Monday’s big parade. At the rear of the procession will be the giant sardine itself, accompanied by mourners and “widows” exhibiting their grief at the passing of the large artificial fish.
Finally, the sardine will be cremated on a big bonfire on the beach.
Weather for the event will be cloudy, with a temperature of around 17 degrees. Although there’s a 35% of rain this afternoon, it should have passed by the time the parade starts.
