The Argentine population on Lanzarote took to the streets last night, proudly wearing their shirts and waving flags in celebration of their triumphant win over France on penalties.
In a nail-biting match between reigning champions France and a determined Argentina the game seemed straight forward in the first half as Argentina lead with a two-goal advantage.
The game was turned on its head when young French midfielder Camavinga was substituted on. France was awarded a penalty shortly after, which they scored, and then equalised with another goal a minute later.
In extra-time, Argentina thought they had won it with a goal by Lionel Messi, only to be brought back to Earth by conceding another penalty only 10 minutes later.
The Argentinian squad won 4-2 on penalties and the rest is history.
Argentina fans living in Arrecife took to the Marina to celebrate being world champions together – it has been 36 years since Argentina last won the World Cup.
