Lanzarote is the Canary Island on which demand for electricity has increased the most this year, according to recent figures.

The return of tourism following the pandemic has led to an 18.7% increase in electricity demand from January to October this year. Fuerteventura – the other smaller island with mass tourism- saw an almost identical rise.

The larger islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria saw 6.4% and 3.4% rises respectively, while demand on La Palma, where demand may have risen due to the volcanic eruption last year, went down.
