A 62-year-old hiker was rescued yesterday after suffering a fall on the Volcán de la Corona in Haría.

The accident occurred at around midday, and emergency services and an ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service travelled to the site.

The man had suffered a leg injury after stumbling on the eastern slope of the mountain. Firemen placed him on a stretcher and transferred him to the ambulance where he was attended by paramedics. Once stable, he was evacuated to the Dr José Molina Orosa hospital.

The Volcán de la Corona is a beautiful destination, but authorities have long warned visitors not to stray from the path, climb the rim of the crater or descend into it due to its “treacherous” nature.

In February this year, the body of a young tourist was recovered from the same volcano, and in 2019 five trekkers had to be rescued after descending into the crater.
