Bathing on Costa Teguise’s main beach, Playa de la Cucharas, was authorised yesterday after bacterial tests turned out negative.
The red flag ahd been raised on the beach on Tuesday after Lanzarote’s Security Consortium had discovered “high levels of contamination” in the water. It’s not the first time the beach has been closed recently – it was also closed shortly after the heavy rains of Tropical Storm Hermine in late September.
Today is probably not the best time to enjoy a dip at the beach, however. It is likely to be extremely crowded, as islanders arrive to see the air show that is scheduled to take place from 11.45 am onwards. A sea rescue simulation will take place, and there will be a display from the Spanish Air Force’s Acrobatic Parachute Patrol, who will perform a skydive and land on the beach.
