The water pipe to La Graciosa has sprung another leak just two days after it was repaired by a specialist diving team. “The supply is in a critical situation,” said water utility Canal Gestión.
However, on this occasion the new leak is closer to land – about 15 metres away from the shore and at a depth of between one to two metres – and it may be possible to repair it without divers. An attempt was due to be made yesterday evening, taking advantage of low tide.
The water company stated that the diving team had warned that the pipe was on its last legs when they carried out repairs on Tuesday, and called once again for Lanzarote’s Water Consortium to replace the pipe with a new one.
Canal explained that La Graciosa islanders are likely to experience further problems in the water supply in the next few days, and apologised for the inconvenience.
