Yaiza Ayuntamiento is preparing a €1.9 million refurbishment of Calle Jaime Quesada, the main access road to Playa Blanca town centre, with plans to improve pedestrian access, upgrade public spaces and make changes to traffic circulation.

The project will include resurfacing the road, replacing street furniture, upgrading lighting and paving, widening pavements and introducing shaded areas.

Traffic arrangements will also change, with Calle Jaime Quesada becoming a one-way street running north to south, downhill, as part of plans to restrict vehicle movements and give greater priority to pedestrians.

Yaiza’s Councillor for Public Works, Ángel Lago, said the project was intended to encourage walking and support local businesses.

“This initiative promotes pedestrian mobility, with the aim of boosting local trade and encouraging residents to go for a stroll; they will enjoy a comfortable, refurbished space free from architectural barriers that invites them to make the urban space their own”.

The investment forms part of a wider programme of public works currently under way in Playa Blanca and the surrounding area.

Yaiza is also carrying out a comprehensive refurbishment of the Avenida de Papagayo and developing new parking areas, representing an investment of 2.6 million euros.

Meanwhile, resurfacing and accessibility improvements are being undertaken on seven streets in Las Coloradas at a cost of 1 million euros. The council is also completing the refurbishment of the entrance to Playa Blanca via Femés, a project valued at 1.3 million euros.
