Arrecife-born singer Rosana Arbelo marked a major milestone in her career 30 years after releasing Lunas Rotas, one of the ten best-selling Spanish albums of all time. An exhibition celebrating the album and her career is on display at Casa Amarilla in Arrecife until the end of the month.

30 years ago, Lanzarote singer Rosana released her debut album and rocketed to international fame.

Born in Arrecife, Rosana Arbelo moved to Madrid to study music at the age of 20. There, she performed in local establishments and wrote songs for other artists. In 1996, she released her first album, Lunas Rotas.

It remains one of the ten best-selling Spanish albums of all time.  A life-affirming collection of songs and ballads that contained hits such as the title track, A Fuego Lento, Sin Miedo and Si Tu No Estas, the album sold millions of copies in Spain and Latin America and launched a hugely successful career that continues to this day.

Despite international fame, Rosana’s love of her island never diminished. The video for Sin Miedo was shot on Lanzarote and features the saltworks at Janubio and the wreck of the Telamon. Rosana lives between Lanzarote and Madrid and was awarded the honour of Favoured Daughter of Arrecife in 2022.

An exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of Lunas Rotas and the life and career of Lanzarote’s most famous artist can be seen at the Casa Amarilla in Arrecife until the end of the month.
