The Cabildo has announced a packed October cultural programme featuring literature, storytelling, experimental music, theatre, visual arts and traditional Canarian music.
October will be one of the busiest months in the cultural calendar, with a programme spanning a range of disciplines and venues across the island.
Experimental music at Cueva de los Verdes
The Keroxen Festival will bring two days of experimental music, electronic music and visual arts to the Cueva de los Verdes Auditorium.
On October 22, Los Sara Fontán will perform, with the duo exploring the possibilities of violin, percussion and electronic music alongside visual art by Pura Márquez.
The following day, October 23, Waq Waq Kingdom & Kalma will present a performance connecting the Japanese minyo tradition with dancehall, footwork, dub, techno and real-time visual art.
Canarian folklore and new fado festival
Traditional Canarian music will feature throughout October, with folk performances at several locations around Lanzarote.
Malpeis and the Parranda Pal Porrón will perform on October 3 during the Bajada del Risco-Camino de Las Gracioseras.
On October 4, the La Gran Aldea Folk Group will perform in El Cuchillo, while the Peña de San Roque Band will take part in the Procesión del Pilar in El Cuchillo on October 12.
The programme aims to highlight the musical heritage of the Canary Islands and the work of people and groups involved in folklore.
October’s music programme will conclude at El Almacén on October 30 with Soraya Cardoso, described as one of the leading voices of the new generation of Portuguese fado.
The singer will perform in Lanzarote as part of esFADO, the Canary Islands Fado Festival, with a performance marked by the expressiveness and warmth of her voice.
Theatre productions in El Almacén and Haría
The theatre programme includes Vierdingo, by the Esteban Garrido theatre company, at El Almacén on October 23.
The production combines humour, emotion and reflection while exploring internal conflicts, insecurities and the process of self-acceptance through the story of Iván.
On October 29, Haría will host Noche de finados, a dramatised walking tour by Actúa Teatro.
The production revives legends, rituals and customs from the Canary Islands associated with the commemoration of the deceased, connecting the world of the living with the memory of those who are no longer with us.
Three new exhibitions at El Almacén
El Almacén will open three new exhibitions on October 8.
Germán Páez will present Wild Palms, a series of photographs and video works offering a romantic and evocative vision of the nocturnal urban landscape.
Jesús Madriñán’s Lanzarote brings together large-format photographic portraits and still lifes constructed from local materials and elements linked to tourism.
The third exhibition, Atlas Lanzarote by María Rosa Aránega, is a painting project developed from her immersion in the island’s digital archive. It explores visual connections between Lanzarote’s geography and its inhabitants.
Admission to all three exhibitions is free.
