A tuna fishing boat sunk in Arrecife’s Puerto Naos harbour yesterday, causing a large slick of diesel oil.
As a result, the island’s Emergency Consortium activated its plan to deal with sea pollution. The slick consisted of an estimated 10,000 litres of oil, and measurted 30 metres by 15 metres.
The boat, named Monte Arballu, was moored at the quayside and had sprung a leak which eventually led top its sinking. A speicialist company will be contracted to refloat the vessel.
