Flights cancelled and delayed after airport chaos in the UK

A collapse of the UK’s air control system yesterday led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights, affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers.

At least seven flights from the UK to Lanzarote were cancelled, from London Gatwick, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Bristol, Manchester, Luton and Glasgow Prestwick. Many other flights experienced long delays of up to three or four hours.

The problems were caused by a “technical issue” at the air traffic control services provider Nats. It is the third such incident in recent years.

Although the problem appears to have been resolved, some airlines are warning that today’s operations could be affected due to a knock-on effect from yesterday’s chaos. Passengers are advised to check flight information.
