A man was arrested in Famara yesterday after a high-speed car chase.

Police began the pursuit after the driver evaded a police checkpoint at the LZ-402 roundabout and sped off towards Famara, which was full of people celebrating the end of the local fiestas. After making reckless manoeuvres that could have risked the safety of pedestrians and other road users, local police succeeded in stopping the car.

The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen, and the driver had no licence. He was arrested and faces charges of reckless driving, car theft and disobeying a police officer.
