Canary Islands Heatwave Alert Begins Today

In response to the predicted heatwave, the Canarian Government has declared a state of alert for all of the Canary Islands beginning at 11 am today (Thursday 30^th July).

However, while high temperatures are forecast on Lanzarote, the island is not currently expected to experience temperatures as high as other islands and no heat warnings have, so far, been issued by Spain’s meteorological agency, AEMET.

Current forecasts for Lanzarote are high temperatures for Thursday and Friday that could range from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, with a light calima at high altitude. These will be accompanied by 45-55 kph winds from the north from Thursday afternoon until Friday afternoon, when wind speed will drop considerably.

The high temperatures will continue over the weekend into next week.
