Four Arrested After Suspected Drug-Running Boat Runs Aground Near Mala

A boat that ran aground near Mala yesterday evening was related to drug trafficking, according to Lanzarote’s Emergency Consortium. Three Spanish men and a Frenchman have been arrested.

The boat was originally spotted approaching the Playa de la Garita at Arrieta but headed to the cliffs of la Lajera further south where it ran ashore. Witnesses reported that the occupants of the boat had been throwing packages into the sea before disembarking.

Arrieta was celebrating its fiestas de Carmen, meaning that Local Police and Guardia Civil officers providing security for the events arrived at the scene quickly.
