Bus operators at Lanzarote’s Airport are continuing their boycott of the airport’s designated bus parking area, after new parking charges came into force.

On Wednesday, the facility’s 72 bus bays remained largely empty, while the operators’ offices stayed closed. This was despite the current policy allowing buses to use the parking area free of charge for the first hour.

Instead of entering the airport’s bus parking facility, transport companies are continuing to collect and drop off passengers in other areas of the airport where parking remains unrestricted. Buses are arriving on a rotating basis after waiting at their usual operating bases.

The dispute centres on a new charging system introduced by the management of the airport, which mirrors measures now being rolled out at several airports across Spain. Under the policy, buses are charged €4 per hour for uninterrupted parking once the initial one-hour grace period has expired.

Bus operators have so far shown no sign of ending their protest, with the designated parking area remaining virtually unused.
