This year’s grape harvest could be three times as large as last year’s, according to Lanzarote’s Wine Council.
Two months ahead of the harvest, sources from the Council have informed Canarias7 that this year’s yield could reach 2.5 million kilos, more than triple the 800,000 kilos gathered last year. Last year’s poor harvest has almost exhausted the reserves held by many of the island’s bodegas.
Now, everything depends on the weather. Although the wet winter has provided the moisture the vines need to thrive, recent cool and damp conditions have also increased the risk of mildew. The island’s 1,820 vine growers will also hope that no heatwave occurs in June and July
