UD Lanzarote went into the new year in second spot in the RFEF 3 (fifth tier) but a run of 10 games with just seven points in the bag has seen them plummet down to mid table.
The Rojillos’ home form has been good overall this season with nine wins, three draws and a single defeat, but on the road their only win came way back in late September.
As so often in football when a team is trying hard to end their bad run, nothing goes right for them. This was evidenced in the local derby versus U.S. Yaiza on the 8th March when the ball thundered off the Yaiza woodwork on four occasions and an entertaining match ended goalless.
The following match away from home was versus fifth-placed side CF San Mateo, and Lanzarote led 0-1 until the 97th minute when, yes, you guessed it, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
There are eight matches remaining with four of those at home. If you wish to attend a match, local buses drop you outside the stadium in Arrecife and you can just pay on the door (details below).
On an extremely sad note, Lanzarote has lost local resident Jane Sakke, who passed suddenly whilst on holiday in Thailand at the age of 54. Jane and her husband became season ticket holders before the pandemic and Jane was always offering to help out to raise funds for the club. Our deepest condolences go to her husband Nathan, her family and her incredible number of friends.
