Arrecife council workers investigated over traffic fines

The prosecutor’s office is investigating at least seven past and present council workers in Arrecife Ayuntamiento after accusations that traffic fines have been annulled or cancelled incorrectly over a period of almost ten years.

More than 2,300 cancelled fines are under investigation, amounting to a total loss to public funds of almost €600,000 during a period stretching from 2017 to 2025.

Although no charges have yet been issued, the investigation involves abuse of office, embezzlement and falsification of documents.
