A Canarian court last month declared a plot of land near Playa Quemada as rustic, calming the fears of locals that old tourist development plans could be revived.

In 2001, the existence of two plans was revealed – one for a complex of 2,000 tourist beds and a golf course on the Playa Quemada side of the small fishing village; another for a development towards the Los Ajaches protected area.

The plans were defeated, but the annulation of Yaiza’s general plan and the recent news that one of the plots of land was going to be auctioned revived the worries. However, a surveyor commissioned by the Supreme Court of the Canaries has confirmed that the land is rustic, meaning no such developments can be undertaken.
