A total of 51,324 travellers arrived from other Spanish airports during January this year, marking a 3.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
As expected, Madrid-Barajas Airport contributed the largest share of arrivals, accounting for nearly half of all domestic traffic with 25,197 passengers. However, it also recorded a 7% drop year-on-year.
El Prat Airport sent 8,844 passengers to the island, a reduction of 12.5% from January last year. This decline comes with the cancellation of two weekly Ryanair services connecting Barcelona with Lanzarote.
Arrivals from Andalusia surged by 18% in January, climbing from 6,837 passengers in 2025 to 8,070 this year. This boost is attributed to Vueling’s decision to enhance its winter schedule, adding a fourth weekly flight from Seville and a fifth from Malaga.
Galicia bore the brunt of route adjustments. Following Ryanair’s decision to cut flights from Santiago de Compostela, arrivals more than halved, plummeting by 55%. The figures fell dramatically from 4,705 passengers last January to just 2,080 in 2026. This significant drop meant that the Basque Country overtook Galicia in passenger numbers this January, with 3,162 arrivals.
Valencia emerged as a standout performer, experiencing a remarkable increase. Airports in the region dispatched 3,853 passengers to Lanzarote in January, more than double the 1,745 travellers who made the journey in January 2025. This substantial rise coincides with Ryanair introducing an additional flight to Valencia and launching two new direct services to Alicante for the winter season.
Rounding out the figures, Asturias saw a minor decline, with 118 people arriving in January compared to 130 during the same month last year.
