Arrecife’s carnival is now fully underway and the capital will be absolutely buzzing on Saturday, as costumed revellers head into town to dance and drink the afternoon away. They’ll be joined by tourists from two large cruisers, so if you’re like crowds, spectacle and a lively atmosphere, you know where to come.
It’ll all kick off at 12 midday, when batucadas and comparsas (drummers and dancers) will parade along the seafront from the Parque Islas Canarias to the Ayuntamiento.
There’ll also be Day Carnival events taking place in three locations from 12 midday. They’ll be held in the Plaza de las Palmas in front of the Church of San Ginés (until 3pm); the Avenida Vargas, on the seafront in front of the Ayuntamiento (also until 3 pm), and in the Plaza del Almacén until 5pm.
At 6 pm action will shift to the Recinto Ferial – the huge marquee near the Cabildo – for the Youth Carnival, with DJs and artists continuing until 2 am.
The usual Saturday morning market in the Plaza de las Palmas will be closed for second week in a row, so if you fancy fresh fruit and veg, head to Haría instead.
