Residents and visitors can now enjoy a safer and more picturesque stroll along the La Arena beachfront, following the installation of a new lighting by Arrecife Ayuntamiento.
The project illuminates the pedestrian promenade that wraps around playa de La Arena and its viewpoint, near the Castillo de San José.
The new lighting covers the stretch between the port of Los Mármoles and the entrance to the Castillo de San José. The fixtures have been discreetly integrated into the volcanic stone wall that lines the walkway.
The system, which utilises energy-efficient LED lamps, has been operational since the first weeks of 2026.
Plan to Enhance Arrecife’s Beaches
Arrecife Ayuntamiento Councillor, Davinia Déniz, explained that her department has several projects and interventions underway. These are focused on Arrecife’s beaches and their access points, aiming to provide new services and facilities so that users can enjoy them in an accessible and safe manner.
Beyond playa de La Arena, there are plans for further actions for the beaches of Castillo de San Gabriel, El Cable, and La Concha.
Arrecife Ayuntamiento has also carried out various improvement works specifically on playa de La Arena to enhance accessibility. This small beach is particularly popular with residents from the nearby neighbourhoods.
Mayor Yonathan de León highlighted the community benefits of the project. He noted that providing public lighting to this pedestrian section will allow citizens to walk more safely at night in an area that provides access to the port of Los Mármoles and the Castillo de San José, where the MIAC museum and a restaurant offer evening services.
