Arrecife’s city centre will host the Festival of Silence, featuring 18 human statues, on Friday the 19th and Saturday 20th of December.
The human statues will pose in and around Arrecife’s main shopping street and, as is usual, onlookers will be able to throw coins to get them to move. Each statue will also have a QR code, allowing visitors to vote for their favourite. Prizes will be awarded on Saturday evening in the newly renovated Plaza de Palmeras.
Arrecife’s Culture Councillor Echedey Eugenio and festival director Octavio Mir were joined at the press conference by Karen Valderrama, who is known as “The Angel of Las Ramblas”. With 27 years of experience, Valderrama is one of Spain’s first human statues and has become an icon of Las Ramblas, the main street in Barcelona that is famous for its parade of performers.
