Spain enters its “puente de diciembre” this weekend. A “puente”, or bridge, is when bank holidays coincide with weekends, creating a three- or four-day holiday that many people use for a mini-break.

Schools and colleges will be closed today, 5th December, which is Teachers and Students Day. Most other businesses and shops should open, but some may be closed as owners take advantage of the Puente.

Tomorrow, 6th December, is a national holiday in Spain to celebrate the signing of the Spanish Constitution in 1979, and Monday 8th December is another national holiday – the Day of the Immaculate Conception.

Shopping centres and most supermarkets will remain open throughout the puente, and the resorts generally carry on as usual, but banks and many smaller businesses will close until Tuesday.
