Four yellow weather alerts have been issued for Lanzarote tomorrow. The alerts by are for rain, wind, rough seas and storms, as Storm Claudia hit the Canaries.
AEMET, Spain’s weather agency has announced that the alerts will last from midnight tonight (Wednesday 12th) until 6 pm on Thursday. Detailed predictions are as follows:
Rain: Stormy showers that could bring 15 mms of rainfall per hour.
Wind: South-westerly, with gusts that reach 70 kph.
Rough seas: South-western winds of 50-60 kph (Force 7).
Storms: Isolated storms
Yellow alerts are the lowest level of warning, and recommend that citizens remain informed and reconsider outdoor activities that may result in risk.
The Canarian Government’s Emergency Directive has also declared a state of alert for rain, wind and possible floods on Lanzarote, starting at 6 pm today.
Lanzarote schoolchildren will be disappointed to learn that, for the moment, schools will remain open on Thursday, despite closures on four of the western islands. Parents, however, are advised to stay informed.
