AEMET, Spain’s weather agency, has issued yellow warnings for rain and storms on Lanzarote for Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm.
Moderate rainfall of 15 mm is forecast, with stormy showers that could reach the capital Arrecife. The southern and western areas of the island will be worst affected, and strong gusts of wind could affect central areas.
The rain and storms are a result of Storm Claudia, which has been brewing hundreds of miles east of the Bay of Biscay for the last few days. The storm will not affect the islands directly but will shift wind direction to south-westerly, which often means bad weather.
However, Lanzarote is currently predicted to escape lightly, while the western Canary Islands will suffer stronger storms and rains
Current forecasts suggest the bad weather will pass fairly quickly.
