Lanzarote’s Cabildo has invited bids for two contracts to provide shuttle buses and vigilance and maintenance services to the Los Volcanes Natural Park.
The first contract of €1 million, will provide a shuttle bus service in the Natural Park, based on the system piloted successfully at Easter this year which carried visitors to the popular walking sites at the Volcán del Cuervo and Caldera Blanca.
The free bus service will operate two 55-seat vehicles departing from Mancha Blanca every 30 minutes between 10 am and 6 pm, and stopping at Caldera Blanca, Tinguatón, the Volcán del Cuervo and Montaña Colorada. Three bus drivers will be employed.
The second contract, worth €1.5 million, will be for vigilance, cleaning and maintenance, access control and environmental information in the area. It will employ six wardens, four environmental information staff, six cleaning and maintenance staff and a project co-ordinator.
The Natural Park is a protected area that immediately surrounds the even more highly protected National Park of Timanfaya, where unguided access is forbidden. The aim of the projects is to ensure protection of this increasingly visited area, which has increased in popularity following publicity on social media.
