Arrecife Socialists have once more criticised the spending of the city’s Mayor, Yonathan de León, on festivities and concerts.
They claim that over €10.5 million has been spent this year so far on various festivities, including the Christmas events, carnival, the April Fair, Canary Day, Manga Fest, Summer Fest and the San Ginés fiestas.
The average spending on festivities is “more than €43,500 euros a day,” claims Socialist councillor Cristina Duque. “This in one of the poorest cities in Spain, with housing and education problems, and with one of the lowest average salaries in Spain.”
Duque said, “The constant partying by members of the PP and the Coalicion Canaria will end up bankrupting the city.”
De León has previously defended the festivities on the grounds that they create employment and improve the image of the city.
