Two Polish trekkers had to call the emergency services after running out of water and encountering problems ascending the Famara cliffs yesterday.
The call occurred at 3.17pm in the afternoon, the hottest part of a day in which the island had been placed on yellow heat alert.
Local police and firemen attended the walkers, provided them with water and energy gels to rehydrate themselves, and accompanied them to the parking area on the clifftop.
The Emergency Consortium reminds citizens to plan walking excursions carefully, especially in zones of high sun exposure (which covers pretty much everywhere overground on Lanzarote). They also advise taking plenty of water, orientation devices and informing someone of your whereabouts before setting out.
