In a historic moment for Canarian sport, Lanzarote’s own mixed martial artist, Hecher Sosa, has officially earned a coveted contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The island celebrates as its native son secures his place on the world’s most prestigious MMA stage.

The decisive victory came in the early hours of this morning in Las Vegas, where Sosa faced off against Mackson Lee. After a gruelling contest, the Lanzarote fighter emerged victorious by unanimous decision, a triumph that instantly secured his long-awaited UFC contract.

The news has been met with immense pride by the island’s governing body. The president of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, extended his heartfelt congratulations, stating that this achievement “is a source of pride for all the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.”

“Our ‘Guanche Warrior’ has shown that with discipline, effort, and sacrifice, it is possible to achieve a dream that seemed impossible a few years ago,” President Betancort added. “My sincere congratulations to him and his entire team.”

Juan Monzón, Minister for Physical Activity and Sports, also praised Sosa’s incredible journey. “Hecher Sosa’s career is incredible. He is a young man who fought for a dream and has managed to take Lanzarote to the top in mixed martial arts competition,” Monzón said.
